Douglas Degenaars is a New Orleans-based writer whose work explores intimacy, power, and vulnerability. He has written more than a dozen books and regularly publishes on Substack, where he shares essays, serial stories, poetry, reflections on the craft of writing, and his own lived experience with the themes his work explores.
Douglas’s writing has garnered a loyal fan base who are drawn to his emotional honesty, psychological depth, and willingness to explore subjects often left in the margins. His work is truly a niche within a niche.
In addition to his writing, Douglas has organized an LGBTQ history group, led a banned book club, and hosted art, writing, and performance salons in his home. When he's not watching British murder mysteries, he also enjoys playing D&D and shaking up cocktails with friends.
